Couples therapy that works with the pattern underneath the conflict.
Couples therapy in nycWhat is Couples Therapy?
Relationships can bring out both the best and the most vulnerable parts of us. Sometimes the same conflict keeps repeating, no matter how many times you talk about it. You may feel misunderstood, disconnected, stuck in the same cycle, or unsure how to get back to the closeness you once had.
Couples therapy provides a space to understand what is happening beneath the conflict and begin creating a different way of relating.
My approach works with both you and your partner(s) together as a couple, while also making space to understand each person's individual experiences, needs, and patterns. Through an integrative combination of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), EMDR, and IFS-informed work, we address both the relationship dynamic and the individual wounds that can become activated within it.
Understanding the PatternOften, the problem isn't one person or the other — it's the cycle you find yourselves caught in together.
One partner reaches for connection while the other pulls away.
One becomes critical while the other becomes defensive.
You may both want closeness, but find yourselves responding from fear, hurt, or protection instead.
Together, we'll slow down these patterns and begin to understand what is underneath them. The goal isn't to determine who is right or wrong, but to create enough safety for both partners to feel seen, understood, and able to respond differently.
Working With Both the Relationship and the Individual
Our relationships can activate wounds and protective patterns that began long before the relationship itself. Sometimes, creating meaningful change in the relationship also requires addressing what each partner is carrying individually.
Our work can move between couples sessions and individual sessions, depending on what is needed. We may meet together to understand and shift the patterns between you, and meet individually when there are personal experiences, wounds, or patterns that need more focused attention. Using EMDR and IFS-informed work, we can address these individual issues while continuing to support the relationship as a whole.
Already seeing an individual therapist? No problem. Couples therapy can complement your existing individual work, while giving you a dedicated space to focus on your relationship.

My approach is warm, direct, and deeply relational. I won't ask you to simply communicate better if the deeper emotional patterns underneath the communication haven't been addressed.
We'll work to understand what each of you is protecting, what each of you longs for, and how those needs can become lost within the cycle between you.
The goal isn't to create a perfect relationship. It's to help you build a relationship where both people can feel more secure, connected, understood, and fully themselves.
You don't have to keep having the same conversation. You can learn to relate to each other differently.
The goal isn't simply to feel different during a session. It's to create meaningful change that you can carry with you beyond it.
Together, we work with the deeper patterns that shape your emotional, physical, and relational experience—so change becomes something you experience, not just something you understand.
